Readiness Academy Updates
We’re excited to share updates about this year’s Readiness Academy, a key milestone for students enrolling in the Seattle Promise Program. Based on feedback from last year’s sessions, we are implementing a new structure to enhance the student experience and support learning outcomes. If you have any questions regarding this year’s Readiness Academy, please do not hesitate to reach out to, Christian Granlund, the Seattle Promise Director of Outreach.
Save the Date: Readiness Academy sessions will take place from May 19th to June 5th, with make-up and virtual sessions to follow shortly after.
Important Details: Sessions will run Monday to Thurs during the school day, concurrently across all Seattle College campuses Event capacity will be approximately 25-40 students Students will be assigned specific dates
What’s Changing: Smaller, More Frequent Session Options:
What: Instead of large-scale events, we’ll hold shorter, more frequent sessions, concurrently across all three campuses (North, Central, and South). Like last year, we do intend to assign students to specific sessions by school, or by student type (Running Start, ESL, Etc.)
Why: Reducing the size of sessions also reduces the logistical barriers that come with large scale events and allows us to focus our efforts on achieving Readiness Academy goals and outcomes. Smaller sessions also allow for greater flexibility in adapting sessions to meet the needs of specific student types such as Running Start, ESL or other student types.
Potential Impacts on you/your students: Students will have more flexible options to attend a Readiness Academy at their preferred college. The program agenda will have more time for students to engage with their Outreach and Retention Specialists. Your senior class will likely attend sessions across multiple days rather than one day for a single large event.
Independent Transportation:
What: Unfortunately, we will be unable to provide busing for this year’s Readiness Academy. Students will be required to transport themselves to sessions. We are currently exploring options to provide limited busing support for select sessions or specific needs. We look forward to sharing updates as Readiness Academy approaches. Additionally, we will provide information and guidance for students to help them navigate transportation.
Why: With 36 sessions planned across three campuses, the logistics and funding required for busing have presented significant challenges. By shifting to self-managed transportation, we can focus on delivering high-quality sessions for all students.
Potential Impacts on you/your students: Rather than managing coordination for field trips, we will be asking for your support in facilitating excused absences for students and their Readiness Academy visit Students will need to plan their own transportation. To assist, we will provide detailed guidance on routes, schedules, and tips for navigating to their assigned campus in advance of their sessions.
Offering Pre-Readiness Academy Prep Workshops in the High School What: We plan to pilot optional enrollment workshops at high schools to help students prepare for Readiness Academy.
Why: These workshops aim to provide tailored support to students who need it most, ensuring they are well-prepared to fully engage in Readiness Academy.
Potential Impacts on you/your students: Students will be better equipped to focus on registering for classes and exploring campuses and programs during Readiness Academy. We are seeking your partnership and collaboration to determine the best approach to implement an enrollment support event at your school, that best meets the needs of your students. We expect this will vary school to school.
