Global Travel for Students
Travel to Costa Rica during Spring Break!
Ingraham teachers and students with be traveling with EF Tours to Costa Rica April 10-18, 2027. Students will visit a coffee farm, hike in Arenal Volcano National Park, kayak on Lake Arenal, participate cultural exchanges, visit the Santa Elena Cloud Forest, and much, much more! This trip is operated by EF Tours – it is not a school-sponsored or district-sponsored trip.

CIEE Global Navigator Program (summer study abroad) – scholarships available!
CIEE is a nonprofit study abroad organization that has been around for nearly 80 years. There are 40 amazing destinations around the world that you can visit for 3-4 weeks in the summer.
There are language immersion programs in which you immerse yourself in the local scene while you improve your fluency in Spanish, French, Japanese or other languages. There are also programs that focus on service learning where you can work with a community on global issues such as climate change, social justice, or youth mentorship. Grow your leadership skills and earn up to 50 service hours! Other topic programs include culinary arts, dance, filmmaking, theater, fashion marketing, and sports management.
Ingraham is part of the CIEE Global Navigator School Network with access to up to $100,000 in CIEE scholarships for students each year. Application deadline: January 20, 2027.

AMIGOS (summer volunteer programs in Latin America)
AMIGOS programs provide a unique opportunity to experience a new culture as a local, not a tourist. Volunteers report increased fluency in Spanish after going through our program. Activities go far beyond the classroom; you’ll lead activities in Spanish, learn local slang, and increase your confidence with real-world practice.

Study abroad in Germany with a FULL SCHOLARSHIP in 2027-28!
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship is for motivated high school students who want to experience a culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience. Learn about German culture first-hand by living with a host family and attending a German high school. Embark on an adventure that is unlike any other. The CBYX program additionally offers vocational and young professional scholarship opportunities. Application deadline: November 3.

Learn a new language and study abroad for free with NSLI-Y!
NSLI-Y is a U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program to provides overseas critical language study opportunities for U.S. high school language learners. The NSLI-Y goals can be viewed on the program’s website.
Eligible U.S. high school students can apply toNSLI-Y summer 2027 or NSLI-Y academic year 2027-28. NSLI-Y does not require previous language study. The program is able to accommodate learners at the complete beginner through Advanced-Low levels on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency scale. For more information about eligibility, please see the NSLI-Y website.
Language offerings for 2027 study abroad programs include:
- Summer: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, and Russian
- Academic year: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), and Russian
Finalists selected though a merit-based process will study the target language in a host location abroad in summer 2027 or academic year 2027-28. Learn more about covered costs here.

Future Leaders Exchange Abroad (FLEX Abroad) Program
Study abroad in high school on a scholarship in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Morocco, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania or Thailand!
In 2021, the U.S. Department of State and American Councils for International Education announced the inaugural year of the Future Leaders Exchange Abroad (FLEX Abroad) program. After nearly three decades of success welcoming international students to the United States through the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program, we are now offering a new opportunity for U.S. citizens to go abroad. FLEX Abroad provides a unique fully funded exchange experience for American high school students to build global awareness and intercultural competency. This experience positively impacts students’ personal growth and ensures global mutual understanding through direct interaction with another culture.

Global Learning Opportunities in Seattle
OneWorld Now!
This After-School Program combines world language learning and leadership development to support students in their journey to becoming global citizens. Twice weekly, students take after school critical world language classes in Arabic, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, or Russian. These languages are less commonly taught in U.S. schools but are widely used world languages that will be beneficial for future global leaders. Students can earn up to 1.0 high school credit per year for these classes. OWN also helps students connect with study abroad opportunities that match the language they learn.
Korean 1 will be taught at Ingraham on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 – 6:00 pm in room 131.

Host an International Exchange Student!
You don’t have to get on a plane to take part in a global exchange. You can host an international student or adult visitor in your home. There are both short-term and long-term hosting opportunities. You will need to provide a private room with an individual bed and meal.
World Affairs Council Homestays
The World Affairs Council of Greater Seattle hosts both visiting adults and students. Examples of upcoming visiting groups include Ukrainian business leaders (October 16 – November 9, 2026) and Members of the Armenian Parliament (December 3-10, 2026).

FIUTS Homestay Program
Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) has a variety of opportunities to host international UW students. FIUTS also hosts visiting groups of high school and college students throughout the year.

CIEE BridgeUSA High School Host Family Program
You can host an international high school student for a semester or a full year. If you host a student, your own child will receive a $1,000 discount for a summer study abroad program with CIEE.

Writing Contests
Local Letters for Global Change Writing Contest – due November 1 at 8:59 pm
Make your voice heard this fall by writing a letter to a local decisionmaker that explains a global issue that matters to you, shows how it connects to your local community, and proposes a solution. Through this contest, students can practice global citizenship, civic action, and persuasive writing, all while exploring the underreported issues that matter to them through Pulitzer Center news stories. Prizes:
We will select one first place winner and up to four finalists for each issue category. First place winners will receive:
- $300 to support global community engagement in your classroom (prize distributed to your class teacher)
- Publication of your letter, photo, and bio on the Pulitzer Center website

- $75 to support global community engagement in your classroom (prize distributed to your class teacher)
- Publication of your letter, photo, and bio on the Pulitzer Center website
All entrants will be invited to participate in a Pulitzer Center town hall event, held virtually in November, to share their solutions with other students from around the world.
