Service Learning Hours and Opportunities
Service Learning Hours and Opportunities
Service learning hours must be accrued during the student’s high school career, meaning that hours can only be earned when records move to the high school in mid-August of the student’s first year of high school.” School Board Policy 2415 Graduation Requirements states.
Students are required to complete 15 service hours PER grade attended within SPS as part of their high school graduation requirements*. For students in SPS for 9th-12th grades this is a 60 hour requirement in total.
With pre-approval from their high school, students may fulfill up to 15 hours of their Service-Learning Graduation Requirement during the summer between 8th and 9th grade.
*Students who complete the requirements for an IB Diploma can waive these service hours as the IB diploma meets all the requirements for a Washington State HS diploma. This is in accordance with RCW 28A.230.122.
Service Learning Form
Students must complete the Service Learning Form for hours to be recorded. Ingraham HS students do NOT need to complete the Reflection page. Turn this form into the Counseling Office or email Ingraham’s Counseling Secretary at jawilhoit@seattleschools.org.
Honor Cord for 120 + Service-Learning Hours
Ingraham has a purple honor cord awarded at graduation for students that achieve 120+ service-learning hours in their high school career. Students should continue to turn in their service-learning hours to the Counseling Office even after they have fulfilled the 60-hour requirement to achieve this new honor cord. Only hours turned in by the end of May will count towards these totals.
Students who complete CAS who want to get a purple cord must fill out the Service Learning paperwork to show completion of 120 hours of Service Learning.
