    2020-2021 Music Auditions

Here you can find information from our Band, Orchestra, and Choir teachers on how they're planning on running our 20-21 auditions.

From Heidi Oveson (Orchestra and Theatre)

    Hello All –

I hope that you are staying healthy and sane through all of this. This is a confusing and stressful time for everyone, but I imagine being an 8th grader transitioning into high school is extra stressful.

I think I figured out a way for students to audition remotely. I created a google form where they can fill out their contact information and should be able to also attach video of themselves performing their audition pieces in the same document. Symphony Orchestra google form

The audition should include a 2 -3 octave scale (preferably 3 octave) of their choosing and a selection of solo repertoire of no more than 3 minutes. Please have them email me if they need further clarification. I only require an audition for the symphony orchestra. Please also communicate that there are places for winds and brass in the symphony as well as the strings. I am attaching a flyer that I put together that can be distributed digitally to incoming families so that they can understand better what our orchestra program is all about.

    From Shane Henderson (Band/Percussion)

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Ingraham High School and the Ram Band! Here’s some info to aid in the transition to High School Band.

Ingraham has two concert bands, two jazz bands and Percussion Ensemble. All percussionists should register for percussion class and sign-up for an audition. There is no audition for the Symphonic Band. Wind Ensemble is our smaller, audition only group.

Wind Ensemble/Percussion Auditions will be held the week of June 15. Students should prepare a 2 – 3 minute solo that demonstrates range, articulation and style. Major Scales and sight-reading will also be part of the audition. Percussionists should prepare a snare solo that demonstrates rhythmic knowledge and roll proficiency. After the audition process, students will be notified and I will adjust schedules as necessary. Contact Shane Henderson to set-up a time, please include students’ name and instrument in the message. Additional audition material will be included in the reply.

Band camp will be held August 17 – 21 from 9 – 3 for all Percussion Ensemble and Symphonic Band members. At this camp we learn the Ingraham marching technique, our first song to the halftime show and other pep music we play in the stands. There is no charge for this camp held at IHS, students should bring lunch and water bottles.

Auditions for Jazz Ensemble will be held on Monday August 24. Sign-ups for jazz auditions will be the week prior at camp or via email contact. Students should prepare a Medium swing and Ballad melody for the audition. Eb and Bb blues improvisation and sight-reading will also be part of the audition. For the 2020 – 2021 school year both Jazz Bands will meet during “0” period starting at 7:55.

Participation in both Jazz bands requires concurrent enrollment in a music ensemble during the day.
