    Dear Ingraham Families,
The 2017-18 school year is officially underway and the Ingraham High School Counseling team is busy working on many exciting projects.
One of these projects is a quarterly newsletter to keep everyone appraised on what we are working on and important events that are happening at Ingraham High School.
Our comprehensive school counseling programs is based on The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model. Meaning we are trying to provide equitable and appropriate services by addressing every students’ academic, career and social/emotional developmental needs.
This newsletter will focus on College Readiness! We will talk about the logistics of applying to college, what you can do in 9th, 10th and 11th grade to prepare for college applications, and also highlight some events that are happening in our community to help students be college ready.

How to Make an Appointment with your Counselor

If you would like to make an appointment to see your counselor, you can come to the counseling office and make an appointment with Ms. Nif our counseling office secretary.
Once your appointment is scheduled, we will send out a request to report on the day of your appointment so you can leave class. Once you get to the counseling office please sign in on the clipboard and please wait until your counselor comes to get you.

    Requesting Transcripts
All transcripts must be requested in writing using the Transcript Request Form which is available in the counseling office.
It is the responsibility of each student to fill out the Transcript Request Form completely (list ALL colleges that you are applying to).

    College Applications
School Report or Secondary School Report, is also known as your counselor recommendation. Some schools require Secondary School Reports form your high school counselor. Transcripts are usually included with a Secondary School Report. It is a recommendation form that your high school counselor fills out for you.
It is vital you invite your school counselor to the Common App. and the Coalition. In order for your school counselor to upload information, write a letter of recommendation you must invite your school counselor on Common App. and Coalition

Bragsheets. Please type your answers to the questions listed on the Bragsheet. Bragsheets are a tool that your counselor uses to write you a fabulous letter of recommendation. You will then turn your Bragsheet into your counselor and will also set up an appointment to go over your Bragsheet with your counselor, talk about any specific college programs you are applying to and to confirm that you have invited your counselor on Common App. and or the Coalition. ***Do NOT wait until the last minute to do this. There are strict deadlines and with each counselor averaging 100 letters of recommendation and their usual day to day tasks, the more notice you give us the better. So help us help you! )

Counselors are visiting classrooms to complete the online High School and Beyond Plans (HSBP). HSBP’s are a graduation requirement and is used to help guide students through their high school experience and to start thinking about post high school plans.
Your student can login online to show you what the HSBP looks like.

College Knowledge book provides 23 digital handouts which covers the most asked about topics when it comes to college readiness. We encourage families to talk about college as early as the 9th grade.
Complete College Knowledge book is located here.
