Traffic Education discontinued for the Fall 2012
Seattle Public Schools to discontinue Traffic Education on Aug. 31
Starting in the fall, the District will no longer offer traffic education. During lean budget times, the District can no longer afford to offer this program, which is not a part of our core academic mission. Costs to maintain and insure a car fleet, as well as staffing costs, are not fully covered by student fees. In addition, the District is no longer able to offer competitive prices to families, so we are seeing dwindling enrollment in traffic education. However, Seattle Public Schools will still offer summer traffic education this year, before ending the program on Aug. 31, 2012. If families would like to sign up for summer traffic education, please visit online: http://bit.ly/TrafficEd

Ingraham Robotics Team News! Oh so close!
The Ingraham Robotics Team played 19 matches on Friday and Saturday against 46 other teams from Washington, Oregon and even Mexico and Turkey. On the last match we lost by one point 68-67 for the championship of the Seattle regional. If we had won we would be going to St. Louis for the nationals. Oh so close! It was an unfathomable combination of hard work and magic. We were amazed at the experience and accomplishment - a first year team consisting of 9 freshmen, 2 sophomores and 1 junior. There were seven other rookie teams and we were seeded 40 out of 47 and the only rookie team in the finals. They never got down on themselves even though we lost tough matches on Friday while we were getting the kinks out of the software. And last but not least we had an outstanding group of mentors and supportive parents.

School Year extended to June 22, 2012
The Seattle School Board decided on Wednesday night to extend the school year by two days to make up for January’s inclement weather. The last day of school will be Friday, June 22. School staff will work with students on June 21 and June. 22.
The School Board voted 0 to 7 against applying for a waiver from the state. A waiver would have allowed Seattle Public Schools to not make up those two days, saving the district about $500,000. Seattle students lost three days of school in January because of unsafe winter weather conditions. One day was made up on Jan. 27.
